Summer
Report '08: If there is ever a month to give your trout
stream a break, it is this month on your favorite lake. June is
my best bass month and this year has been no different. Schools
of shad in the the back and mid sections of coves are providing
topwater bites. You can also try standard streamers and baitfish
imitators as the day goes on. Most fish are scrappy 2-4lb. For some
bigger chances try night fishing with the fly. This is one of my
favorite trips and anglers love it. Try a flyrod hula popper for
a noisy presentation around shallow cover or a clouser floating
minnow for a bit more of a quiet approach. Both will work. Do not
be turned off in the heat of the day for bass. Try big terretrials
around deep shady cover. Crappie at night around docklights is another
opportunityto try in the moonlight. As always catfish are biting
the fly. Just get it in front of them on the lake flats for a "rollin"
good time. If they are shallow, they're eating. Carp are very active
particularly in the am. Most flies are working if you can put on
them when they are actively feeding. Try a wooly bugger in black
or olive. Wait til you see the fish eat before striking. It is a
good month for drys on carp as well. Some big mayflies are on lakes.
Saltwater: Jacks and spanish are in the river
systems, watch your tides for tailing reds. Email me for any further
tips or info you need, Capt.Paul Rose
Spring
Trip Report '08: Recent warm daytime temps, longer days
and some rainfall has the warmwater fishing turned on. From about
the middle of the month of april til present, the crappie bit on
the fly was just spectacular. Trips yielded about a dozen 12-14
in crappie. Fished in about 1-2ft of water around sunken trees noted
in the drought conditions. Fished with a yellow beaded bugger plus
or minus an indicator.
This action may start slowing as the crappie move out. But big bluegills
will be following. Bass fishing has also been good around shallow
structure and dropoffs. The yellow bugger worked again as did clousers
and coyotes. This action should remain strong the month of May with
topwaters picking up. And last but my favorite, the carp spawn is
closer to finshing than starting with more fish mudding than spwaning
the last few days. You will still see fish splashing around along
banks/coves but focus on the feeders. This time all year the fly
is not critical, only a cast on target. RLD's, arp clousers and
sculpins will do the job just vary the amt.
of weight to fit the situation. Fish of all sizes are active up
to 15lbs so far this yr. I feel you get the best fight all year
in the spring. Even the runts go to the backing. Action will stay
steady thru fall. Drop me a line to stay on a email list or to get
out. PS the reds are tailing this month of May on the right tides.Great
time to head to the coast as well.

4-FEB-08
Recent warm spell, flats holding a few carp, water temps ~50, things
are slow, recent rains and warming trend providing a good outlook.
Keep you posted.
Fall
is the time to fish. Trout reds, and most of all, carp.
The ongoing drought has not slowed the fall pickup in fishing. The
cooler nights and shorter days have fish with the feedbags on. The
bass are beginning to school up and are found quite shallow chasing
shad. Try crease flies, deceivers and clousers. Look for busting
fish. Also take advantage of the low water to note the uncovered
contours and structures of your favorite lake. Carp have been active
all day long. The am is still best but you can fish all day thru
November. Water is very clear and carp can be found mudding and
tailing aggressively. Try larger nymphs with legs, carp clousers,
and carp hexes. Carp will eat most flies presented correctly. The
key is out in front of the fish and without being detected. Remember
carp fishing is all visual. Shots at 30-40 fish a day is common.
Lot of 10 lb fish being seen. Plenty of catfish following these
carp which readily take a fly. Look for some big panfish around
the docks as your sneaking along as well. A black beetle is a great
choice for big bluegills and a surface slurping carp as well. Great
fun on your four weight. Just remember to check your backing knot
first. Tight lines.email me for any questions on fish reports. Capt.Paul
